EU sets date to give up Russian oil and gas
The European Commission has confirmed that the EU aims to be completely independent of energy imports from Russia by 2027.
“We believe it is possible to reduce demand for Russian fossil fuels within a year and aim to be completely independent of this energy source by 2027,” said Tim Mcphie, spokesman for the European Union (European Union). EU) on energy, said at a press conference in Brussels, Belgium, on March 28.

EU and US on March 25 signed agree supplies more of Washington’s gas to Europe, as the region seeks to limit its dependence on Russian energy. The US said it will work with international partners, trying to secure at least 15 billion cubic meters of liquefied petroleum gas (LNG) for the EU market by 2022 and continue to increase in the future.
The longer-term goal of the agreement is to secure about 50 billion cubic meters of LNG from the US to the EU each year, at least until 2030.
Russia supplies 40% of the EU’s gas needs and more than a quarter of the bloc’s oil imports. Germany, the EU country most dependent on gas supplies from Russia, is reluctant to impose immediate restrictions on Moscow’s energy for fear of a major economic impact.
German Deputy Chancellor and Economy Minister Robert Habeck last week announced the swift plan cut dependencies on Russian energy, but still warned of severe consequences if it immediately imposes an oil embargo on this country.
