This year, the entrance exam to class 10 in Hanoi’s public high schools takes place with three compulsory subjects, Mathematics, Literature, and Foreign Languages, with no fourth subject. Next school year, Hanoi will recruit more than 500,000 preschool children, 140,000 first graders, 151,000 sixth graders and about 129,000 students competing for places in public high schools.
