VinFast’s factory will be located at Triangle Innovation Point industrial park, Chatham County with an area of ​​about 800 hectares and includes 3 main areas: production and assembly area for electric cars and electric buses; battery production area for electric vehicle products and ancillary industry area for suppliers.

Phase 1 of the plant will start construction right in 2022 after receiving the construction permit and is expected to be operational in July 2024. The capacity of phase 1 is expected to be 150,000 vehicles/year. According to the memorandum of understanding, VinFast will continue to invest in the factory in various phases. The first models produced at the factory include the VF 9 – a 7-seat large SUV and the VF 8 – a 5-seat mid-size SUV.

Governor of North Carolina, Mr. Roy Cooper said: “North Carolina is rapidly becoming the center of the clean energy economy. VinFast’s large-scale project will bring many good local jobs, as well as a a cleaner environment as more and more electric vehicles appear on the streets, contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”

The factory will also create thousands of new local jobs. The North Carolina Department of Commerce is the promotion agency to attract investment from VinFast, with the coordination of many state, regional and local organizations.

North Carolina Secretary of Commerce Machelle Baker Sanders said: “Automotive assembly plants are a powerful engine of economic growth because of their positive effects on the region’s economy. VinFast was established in 2017 with its headquarters in Hanoi and a modern, large-scale production complex with a capacity of up to 950,000 vehicles per year by 2026 in Hai Phong, Vietnam.

VinFast has now established operations in international markets, including the US, Canada, Germany, France and the Netherlands. The company’s green product ecosystem distributed in Vietnam includes electric cars, electric motorbikes, electric buses, charging stations and clean energy solutions.
