The Deputy Minister of Health also said that for the age group above 18 years, the injection of booster doses has been carried out by the Ministry of Health since December 2021, currently around 50% of the people have received booster doses. Specifically for risk groups, about 64% of people 18 years of age and older with risk factors had received additional doses.

Regarding vaccination for children from 5 to under 12 years old, Deputy Minister Nguyen Truong Son said that the Government has passed Resolution 14 on purchasing vaccines to inject this group of children. The Ministry of Health has also directed these agencies to work very carefully, step by step, scientifically and objectively based on references to vaccination programs of other countries; World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations to ensure safe vaccination.

“Although children at this age with Covid-19 are mostly mild, but it also affects when they are sick, parents must also take care of them, related children must also take time off to continue learning online. In addition, complications when contracting Covid-19 in this group, through reports of experts who studied international and domestic data, show that it also affects the health and lives of children. To prepare for the Covid-19 vaccination for children aged 5 years to under 12 years, the Ministry of Health has directed provinces and cities to vaccinate children of this age, and at the same time suggested that the Units immediately prepare resources and facilities. , prepare to qualify for vaccination so that the vaccine can be used immediately after receiving the vaccine.

“The Ministry of Health has identified this as a key task by 2022. Immunizing children from 5 to under 12 years old to protect children’s health and help children go to school and play, parents can rest assured to do their job. work under the condition that our country is open, recovers and develops the economy and society,” said Deputy Minister Putra.

Do not mix 2 vaccines for children

At the training conference, Assoc. Prof-Dr. Duong Thi Hong, Deputy Director of the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, said that in early April 2022, right after the Covid-19 vaccine is administered, 63 provinces, cities across Indonesia will deploy injections to children from 5 to under 12 years old.

Therefore, the Pfizer vaccine is indicated for people aged 5 to under 12 years. Dosage route: intramuscular injection, 0.2 ml injection dose. Injection schedule: 2 injections 4 weeks apart.

The Spikevax vaccine (Modern Covid-19 Vaccine) has been approved by the Ministry of Health for use in children aged 6 – under 12 years for urgent needs in the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic. Inject the parenteral dose at 1/2 the adult dose (equivalent to 0.25 ml), the same as the adult vaccine booster dose. 2 injections 4 weeks apart.

According to Ms. Hong, regarding how to implement it, the Ministry of Health requires vaccination campaigns to be carried out in schools and fixed and mobile vaccination facilities.

“Applied first to the older age group, from 11 years old, i.e. 6th graders, then gradually lowers the age. Regions deploy launches by schools and locations based on epidemic situation and vaccine quantity. Please provide” – Assoc Hong stressed.

Regarding the reaction after vaccination, Ms. Hong said that according to his experience from learning from the world and his colleagues, severe and abnormal reactions after vaccination in children aged 5 to under 12 years were less than in children aged 12 and over. .go on.

Severe reactions are less common, however, leaders of the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology stress that locality should not be subjective. In the first 3 days after injection, young children need someone to support 24/24 hours, avoid strenuous exercise.
