‘Never take the difference in petrol prices as a source of income’

The forum was organized to help the business community and investors understand fiscal policies to support socio-economic recovery and development. Along with that, the forum helps to point out opportunities for businesses as well as difficulties and obstacles in the implementation process and propose solutions.

Regarding the petrol price issue, the Finance Minister affirmed: “We never take the petrol price difference as a source of revenue, but always calculate the impact on the economy. But we want to control the price of petrol and oil. There must be a total solution, not just tax reduction.”

Currently, the Ministry of Finance always calculates to ensure synchronization in the supply-demand relationship, petroleum fund, tax reduction, anti-smuggling, and supply assurance to have a positive impact on the economy. According to the Minister of Finance, Vietnam’s gasoline prices are still lower than Laos, China and some neighboring countries.

Besides, the problem posed by the Ministry of Finance is the development of enterprises, even when implementing the stimulus package. The extension of the stimulus package for the period 2022-2023 requires that basic works and public investment be done quickly in the context of rising steel and oil prices, and timely supply of materials.

Therefore, the Ministry of Finance requires provinces to issue monthly unit prices of raw materials so that businesses can reduce losses, recover and quickly implement projects.

In addition, Mr. Dang Cong Khoi, Deputy Director of the Price Management Department (Ministry of Finance), said that from the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022, the Ministry of Finance has coordinated with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to forecast petrol price movements. for updates in price operating scenarios.

Not only that, the Ministry of Finance has introduced price management solutions to strictly control cases of taking advantage of petrol price increases to increase commodity prices unreasonably; thereby controlling inflation for the whole year under the target of less than 4%.

In the coming time, the Ministry of Finance will also continue to increase the use of the Petroleum Price Stabilization Fund tool to contribute to stabilizing domestic gasoline prices. Along with that, the Ministry will step up the implementation of solutions to ensure supply and demand, and at the same time review and evaluate the petroleum distribution system to adjust the structure to suit the domestic reality.

In addition, the Ministry will strengthen the inspection and control of the petroleum trading market, strictly handle cases of speculation, hoarding or unreasonable increase in selling prices.
