Russia warns of the risk of direct conflict with the US

RT news agency quoted Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov today (June 1) as saying that Washington’s arming of Ukraine with heavier weapons increases the risk of direct confrontation between the United States and Russia, even though the United States has provided make statements intended to minimize such a possibility.

Ryabkov commented above when referring to the information that the US has decided to supply many HIMARS multiple rocket launchers to Ukraine.

Washington has always assumed that the weapon system would not allow Ukrainian forces to attack Russia and that it would prevent a scenario in which Moscow would see the United States as a party to the conflict.

US Representative to the United Nations Linda Thomas Greenfield said: “We do not supply any weapons that would allow the Ukrainians to attack Russia from within Ukraine and President Joe Biden has made that very clear. We will not become a warring party.”

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Ryabkov disagreed with this statement and said that the US was making the conflict more dangerous. “Any arms deliveries, which continue and escalate, will increase the risk of a direct confrontation between Russia and the United States.”
