Appearing in VTV’s Kindness program, photographer Hung Lekima (real name Nguyen Viet Hung) is known as a photographer of positive messages about the environment. To document the situation of plastic waste polluting throughout Vietnam, he traveled a total of nearly 7,000 km, including 3,260 km of the coast from North to South by motorbike.

100 photos selected from 3000 photos recorded by Hung Lekima on a one-and-a-half month journey through 28 coastal provinces and over 100 estuaries are extremely impressive and “haunting”. Every day he works from 5 am to 8 pm. Along the way, he stopped at many points to take pictures.

“The first is because I know that Vietnam ranks 4th in dumping plastic waste into the ocean (according to the announcement of the UN Environment Program at the end of 2018 – PV). Second, plastic waste has long been a concern. As a photographer, I understand that through pictures can make people change their perception, thereby changing their behavior. In this photo, I want to make a small contribution of a citizen to change people’s awareness and actions in protecting the environment.he shared the reason for starting this journey on Youth.

In August 2018, from the first place – Hanoi, Hung Lekima started his “thousand-mile journey”. He drove to Ninh Binh, followed the sea route to Ca Mau cape, then went to Ha Tien (Kien Giang), bordering Cambodia. In December 2018, his journey continued from Hanoi to Nam Dinh, along the sea route to Thai Binh, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh to Sa Vy cape – the headland of the country.

He confided on CAND About my experience: “I felt sad when I arrived at the scenic spot, Hon Phu Tu, which is very beautiful in Kien Giang – a rare beach but where people dump their rubbish on the sand and burn it. Then I saw the very old palm trees or coconut trees burned to death, even the stump was still black at the ticketing area of the historical monument, I really felt sorry. I wonder, if the central places are like this, I don’t know how remote and remote the area is.”
