Former astronaut who once set a world record for selling NFTs to help Ukraine
All proceeds from the sale NFT will initially be transferred to a non-profit organization to help Ukraine.
According to Space.com, Scott Kelly, former astronaut NASA documented his time in space through NFT artworks and auctioned them to raise money to support the people of Ukraine during the conflict with Russia.
He was the man who spent 340 consecutive days on International Space Station ISS in 2015 and 2016. Kelly just launched her first NFT project called “Dreams Out of This World”. He hopes his work will inspire people to reach for the stars, just as an iconic book inspired him.
“My story is not the typical astronaut story. I was a bad student growing up, didn’t do well in school and was the dreamer type,” Kelly said.
“I found my inspiration in one book, ‘The Right Stuff’ by Tom Wolfe. So I really, really believe in the idea that inspiration, if done in the right way, by the right people at the right time, can produce extraordinary results,” he added.
NFTs (non-fungible tokens) are pieces of data, stored in a digital ledger called a blockchain, that represent unique assets that cannot be copied and replaced. Kelly hopes her NFT work “Dreams Out of This World” will help introduce people to this somewhat confusing new field.
“I think metaverse and blockchain and cryptocurrency will be an important part of our future. So it seemed like the right time for me to join,” the former astronaut shared.
The release of “Dreams Out of This World” wouldn’t have been possible without the collaboration with content creation studio Orange Comet. This work consists of a series of images recorded by Kelly in space, with The earth simulated differently in the background. Those photos, along with some memorabilia from Kelly’s spaceflight, were auctioned off on April 12, the International Day of Humans on Spacecraft, commemorating the astronaut’s historic 1961 orbital mission. cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.
The auction was scheduled to run for three days on the NFT OpenSea marketplace, but the entire collection sold out in just a few hours, raising over $500,000.
“I’m proud to announce that my NFT collection is officially sold out on @opensea. Thank you to everyone who supported this project! Amidst the current situation, it’s great that we can. come together through art to help people Ukraine. More than $500,000 raised today!”, the former astronaut shared via Twitter.
