Here’s What You Should Do Before Selling Your Phone

Step 1: Backup your data

Your phone stores all the videos and pictures you take, your messages and emails, your contacts, the apps you use, and your personal information. For convenience, when you’re constantly using your phone, you don’t need to log into apps, enter card details when making online purchases over and over, or remember friends’ phone numbers. So when phone sale, the first thing is to back up your data. This simple but important step will ensure that your data won’t fall into the wrong hands and that you can transfer it to your new phone on setup.

If you have an iPhone, go to Settings > iCloud > Storage and Backup.

For Android, navigate to Settings > Accounts and Backups.

Step 2: Delete the cloud account

You have just finished backing up your data and all your data is in the cloud from which you can access it when you need it. Now it is important to remove access to your cloud account from the smartphone you are about to sell. Not only does this help keep your data safe, but it also ensures that the seller you sold your phone to can inspect the device.

Step 3: Reset your device to factory settings

To protect your privacy, restore your phone to its factory default settings and erase all your usage. Here’s how to erase an iPhone before selling it by factory reset.

If you’re selling an iPhone, you can find the factory reset option under Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.

For Android devices, navigate to Settings > General management > Reset > Factory data reset.

Step 4: Write down the IMEI number

A unique 15-digit set (IMEI) is a number assigned to your device for identification purposes. We recommend that you write down the IMEI, in case you send your phone to the seller undocumented, so that your device can be easily identified and located once it reaches the seller.

You can find out the IMEI number of your iPhone or Android by dialing *#06# and the IMEI number will be displayed on the screen. Make a note of it and keep it for future reference in case you may need it.

Step 5: Remove accessories, memory and SIM card

Now that you have done the above steps, the last thing is to take out the micro SD card if you are using it to expand the internal storage of your phone and your SIM card. Get a SIM eject tool that came with your phone, or if you don’t have one, a paperclip will do the job. Simply insert the tip into the pinhole on the SIM tray and press. The SIM tray will pop out and you can carefully remove your micro SD card and SIM.

When you sell your phone, you need to aim for it to be sold in the best possible condition. So next, you need to carefully remove the screen protector, case, car mount and any skin that you may have applied to personalize your phone.

Step 6: Clean the device yours

Once you’ve removed all the accessories, it’s time to clean your phone to remove the screen protectors and all the dirt on the edges, so that leftover fingerprints won’t be detected. Considered a slight scratch. For a perfect clean, avoid ammonia-based cleaners and use a soft microfiber cloth with a small amount of solution to gently wipe the case, back, and front of your phone while making sure No liquid gets into the headphone jack and charging port.

Step 7: Take a picture of your device

We recommend getting proof of the phone’s aesthetic condition before sending it to the buyer to avoid any arguments as anything can go wrong.

Step 8: Read Buyer’s Terms and Conditions

Even if you’ve used that seller before, always read the terms and conditions to see what your rights are and the terms of the contract between the seller and you. Pay attention to payment processing terms, return policies, and deadlines for accepting or rejecting a re-offer.
