Vietnam lost a striker before SEA Games

Coach Park Hang-seo was forced to kick striker Vo Nguyen Hoang, a member of the 2022 Southeast Asian U23 championship team, from the list of SEA Games 31 due to injury.

Striker Vo Nguyen Hoang when with Vietnam U23 won the 2022 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.

Striker Vo Nguyen Hoang plays in the U23 shirt of Vietnam at the 2022 Southeast Asian U23 Championship in Cambodia.

Nguyen Hoang was injured and left the field early in the goalless draw between Ba Ria Vung Tau and Pho Hien at the National Cup on April 11. A day later, he joined the army with the U23 Vietnam team and was taken by the doctors to have an assessment scan. As a result, the 1m82-tall striker suffered ligament damage and had to take a long-term break.

This is a big loss for U23 Vietnam, because Nguyen Hoang is a striker with good body shape and modern play. At the 2022 Southeast Asian U23 Championship in Cambodia, he played quite prominently after being called to be added to Vietnam’s squad.

Previously, Nguyen Hoang, Coach Park had to say goodbye to midfielder Hoang Xuan Tan due to injury.

In return, he decided to add defenders Dang Van Toi (Hanoi FC), Luong Duy Cuong (Da Nang) and striker Le Xuan Tu (Hanoi FC). Two days ago, midfielder Nguyen Bao Toan was also called up.

U23 Vietnam joined forces in Hanoi from April 7, but a week later, they could have enough training because three players over 23 years old, Do Hung Dung, Nguyen Hoang Duc and Nguyen Tien Linh were gathered late.

Vietnam is in Group A with Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Timor Leste at the 31st SEA Games. The team will play its opening match on May 6 with Indonesia at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho).

In the preparation phase to defend the SEA Games gold medal, Vietnam has two friendly matches against South Korea U20 at Viet Tri Stadium on April 19 and Hang Day Stadium on April 22. Tickets to watch these two matches have three denominations of 150,000 VND, 200,000 VND and 300,000 VND.

Tickets for the first match will begin to be sold online at 15:00 today, April 13. Four days later tickets were also sold directly at the counter in front of the stadium.
