Jones, who now says the mass shooting that killed 20 first-graders and six school staff members was real, said he was suffering from an undisclosed illness and could not appear to testify. in March.

Judge Barbara Bellis found him contemptuous and set a good schedule. The first day’s fine on a daily basis is $25,000, but the next day is $50,000.

Jones wanted to waive the fine until it could be heard on a public interest appeal to the Connecticut Supreme Court, but Bellis refused.

The plaintiff’s legal team wants to arrest Jones for contempt of court after he failed to testify. They argued that, despite his undisclosed illness, Jones was well enough to appear on his radio show three times in the week on the same day as March.

“Defendant Alex Jones sat for two full days from the date of his removal at Plaintiff’s attorney’s office – even going above and beyond the Court’s order on March 30, 2022, by sitting out normal hours to be deposed,” his lawyers said in court documents filed April 6.

The documents are part of a $75,000 refund request.

Jones appeared in an Infowars video after the first day of testifying.

“I could have done a better job with Sandy Hook,” he said. “Some of the anomalies we reported were incorrect and I admitted it years before being sued.”

The legal team for the plaintiffs said the families did not comment on the order. Jones’ attorney, Norm Pattis, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the refund.

Jones’ legal team said in March that it had been trying to settle the lawsuit for about a year. He faces a similar suit in Texas. In both states, he was found liable for damages. Tests are imminent, with one in Waterbury, Conn., expected to begin in mid-June.
