Seafood exports in the first quarter of 2022 increased to a record

Data from the General Department of Customs shows that in March, seafood exports reached US$1.02 billion, up nearly 60% from the previous month. By the end of the first quarter of 2022, seafood exports reached US$2.52 billion, up over 45% over the same period last year. In which, exports to all major markets increased, specifically: to the US reached 574 million USD, up 71%, to Japan reached 347 million USD, up 13%, to the EU reached 297 million USD, up 57 %. The Chinese market alone reached the highest level ever with US$326 million, up 104% over the same period last year, equivalent to an increase of US$167 million.

For the pangasius industry, the first quarter of this year reached 646 million USD, up 88% over the same period last year and accounting for 27% of the total export turnover of the seafood industry.

With shrimp, the export turnover of the first three months of the year reached over $900 million, up 37% over the same period and accounting for 37% of the total export turnover of the seafood industry.

In addition to shrimp and pangasius, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (Vasep), the total export turnover of seafood in the first quarter reached 878 million USD, up 20% over the same period. In which, tuna reached 234 million USD, up 55%; squid, octopus reached USD 156 million, up 35%; molluscs and crabs reached 30 and 54 million USD respectively, up 23% and 70% respectively over the same period last year.

Vasep also forecasts that pangasius exports in the second quarter of 2022 may increase by more than 50% compared to the same period in 2021.

In which, in April, Vietnam’s seafood export continued to maintain a positive growth momentum with a turnover of over 930 million USD, up 25% over the same period.

Statistics show that, in the first quarter of 2021, the top 10 seafood enterprises have an average growth rate of 57.4%. The big players in the industry recorded impressive growth such as Vinh Hoan, Minh Phu, CASE, FIMEX VN…

From 3rd place last year, this year, Vinh Hoan pangasius “queen” (VHC) has risen to the top of the industry with a revenue of 102.3 million USD, up 74.6% over the same period.

The second place in the Top 10 is the shrimp industry company Stapimex, which recorded an increase of 67.6% in export turnover to 96.2 million USD.

Followed by “shrimp king” Minh Phu (MPC) from the leading position in 2021 dropped to the third position with revenue of $ 80 million, up 37% over the same period. In return, Minh Phu – Hau Giang maintained the No. 4 position with an export value of more than 68.3 million USD, up 34.4%.

Enterprises in positions 5 – 8 in the order of CASES, Biendong Seafood, FIMEX VN and Navico all recorded a good growth in export turnover in the first quarter, 58.6% respectively; 63.5%; 35.7% and 58.7%.

In this year’s Top 10 list, the name Van Duc Tien Giang Export City CB One Member Co., Ltd with revenue reached 31.1 million USD, up 79.3%, ranked at No. 9, while last year the company This is at number 15.

IDI CORP is also a notable name, from the 20th position, this business has risen to the 10th place with a revenue of 30.8 million USD, up 102.6% over the same period in 2021.

Seafood stocks upstream

Ending last week’s session, VN-Index dropped 23.44 points (-1.58%) to 1,458.56 points. Trading value on HoSE decreased by 35.4% compared to the previous week with 83,503 billion dong, trading volume decreased by 36.3% to 2,538 million shares.

Seafood stocks last week went against the odds despite the market being in the red, stocks in this industry can be mentioned as IDI, VHC, ACL, CMX…

Specifically, IDI shares closed on April 15 at 29,300 VND/share, increasing 10.11% in a week; CXM shares closed last week trading at 24,800 dong/share, increased 11.21% in the week; VHC shares closed at 104,600 VND/share, in a week the market price increased by 16.48%.

ACL’s share price also “galloped” and closed April 16 at 26,000 VND/share, up 46.89% compared to the beginning of the year. This is also the record high price range that the unit has set since its listing (September 5, 2007).
