“I’m obsessed with the truth”

Johnny Depp made his stance on Tuesday afternoon during his ex-wife Amber Heard’s defamation trial, Depp said: “The truth is the only thing I care about. Lies won’t get you anywhere, but lies do. lies are built upon lies and built upon lies”.

“I’m obsessed with the truth,” says Depp.

Under questioning by his own attorney, Depp denied that he had ever been violent with Heard or with any other woman.

Heard accused Depp of assaulting her, strangling her, and kicking her multiple times throughout their relationship. Amber also accused Depp of sexually assaulting her during a fight in Australia in 2015. Depp and Heard divorced in 2016.

In December 2018, Heard wrote a personal opinion piece in the Washington Post in which she alluded to her previous allegations of abuse and domestic violence. Although Amber did not identify Depp in the post, the actor sued her for $50 million.

“I feel it’s my responsibility not only to stand up for myself in that case, but to stand up for my child,” Depp said cautiously in the witness chair. Depp said the allegations against him were “pretty heinous and disturbing” and “not based on any facts”.

He also talked about the beginning of his relationship with Heard, saying that “she seemed too good to be true”: “She was attentive. She was in love. She was smart. She was. She’s kind. She’s funny. She’s understanding.”

Johnny Depp added that they share a taste for blues and that Heard often takes off his shoes when he gets home. But within a year and a half, he said, “she almost became a different person.”

Also in court Tuesday afternoon (US time), Depp admitted he became dependent on Roxicodone – a prescription pain reliever – after injuring himself by throwing a chair while filming “Pirates of the Dead”. the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”, the fourth installment in the series. Depp describes addiction as being like a “monkey on your back” and says he’s been on the drug for four to five years, or more.

When discussing his relationship with Amber Heard, Depp said that things were going well at first, but after a while “things started to come out”. He said that Heard would react violently if he wanted to stay up to watch TV and she wanted to go to sleep.

“I don’t understand why I, a 50-year-old man, should not be allowed to go to bed when I want to, as opposed to when she wants to,” Depp said.

Depp’s testimony will continue on Wednesday.

The trial is expected to last until the end of May and Amber Heard will also have the opportunity to testify in her defense.
