Admire the ancient beauty of Southern Khmer temples in Tra Vinh
Tra Vinh province currently has 143 Khmer temples, with extremely unique architecture.
Typically, Komponenigrodh pagoda, located in Chau Thanh district, Tra Vinh province) was established in 1637.
The pagoda is also known as Hang Pagoda because the gate is like a cave.
Not only wearing an ancient beauty hundreds of years old, the pagoda is also a place that attracts a large number of visitors from all over the world and Buddhists, because this is the place where hundreds of wooden sculptures were born.
The story begins with the art passion of the eldest monk Thach Xuong. In June 2002, once by chance, he knew that an acquaintance in Binh Minh district, Vinh Long (also a Khmer ethnicity) was very talented in sculpture, so he invited him to come back to the temple to teach the monks.
Up to now, more than 40 monks in the temple have mastered their skills and become true artisans to produce hundreds of unique sculptures.
Next to it is Ang Pagoda (Khmer name is Angkorajaborey), located on Highway 53, in cluster 4, ward 8, Tra Vinh city.
This is one of the typical temples in the system of 143 Khmer temples in Tra Vinh. According to the Table of Historical Relics of Ang Pagoda, the pagoda dates back to 990…
In 1695, the main hall was rebuilt with bamboo leaves. In 1842, the pagoda was rebuilt with precious wood (rui, sesame and 60 pillars), roofed with tiles and built walls. After that, the temple was restored a few more times.
The pagoda is located in an area of about 4 hectares, surrounded by a deep moat, and was built in the architectural style of the Khmer Southern pagoda.
Like many other Khmer temples, Angkorajaborey is not only a place of monks to practice, a place for Khmer youth to study, but also a cultural center. Every year, Ok Om Bok festival (the full moon of the 10th lunar month) is the biggest festival of the temple.
