Plane crashes into busy street in Haiti, killing at least 6 people

Haitian civil aviation authorities said the plane took off from Port-au-Prince airport at 15:44 on April 20 (local time), bound for the southern city of Jacmel in this country. During the flight, the plane suffered an engine failure and sent a notice of the problem at 16:04 on the same day.

Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry wrote on Twitter: “I am deeply saddened by the crash of a small plane on Carrefour Road that left many people dead and injured. My condolences to the families of the victims of the tragedy. this plane crash”.

Jude Edouard Pierre, Mayor of Carrefour, venue plane crash, said that a total of 6 people were killed in this incident. Meanwhile, according to a Haitian government source, the pilot was among the five people on board the plane who died. This person died after being taken to the hospital.

Videos circulating on WhatsApp show the wreckage of a plane lying in the middle of the road along with the bodies of victims in the crash. Reuters news agency was unable to independently verify the source of the videos.

The number of people traveling by air has increased dramatically in Haiti over the past year as gang violence near Port-au-Prince has blocked roads connecting the Haitian capital to other parts of the country.
