Hyundai’s first fully electric motor vehicle has just been introduced in Vietnam.

Hyundai Vietnam has just introduced the all-new IONIQ 5 electric car. This is Hyundai’s first electric vehicle in the market, competing directly with Hyundai’s electric models VinFast. IONIQ 5 is a strategic electric vehicle model of TC Group and Hyundai Motor in the roadmap of developing environmentally friendly electric vehicles using renewable energy.

As for the name, IONIQ is a combination of “ion” – charge, atom and “Unique” – unique. IONIQ 5 is built on the E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform) platform used for Hyundai’s most advanced electric vehicles.

In terms of dimensions, IONIQ 5 has the overall dimensions of a mid-range SUV with the length x width x height parameters of 4,635 x 1,890 x 1,605 (mm) respectively, the ground clearance reaches 160mm. Notably, the wheelbase of IONIQ 5 reaches 3,000mm, equivalent to large SUV models, making the cabin spacious. Compared to VinFast VF8, the IONIQ 5 has a slightly smaller overall size (the VF8 is 4750 x 1900 x 1660mm) but the wheelbase is slightly longer, 3,000mm compared to the VF8’s 2,950.

The exterior of the electric car IONIQ 5 is designed based on the “Concept 45” model with a design language called Parametric Dynamics. IONIQ 5 uses pixels-style front and rear lights with light squares.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 is designed in a minimalist style. The car is equipped with a pair of connected 12.3-inch screens, equipped with a high-end Bose sound system and today’s most trendy entertainment system standards such as Android Auto / Apple Carplay along with a 360-degree camera.

IONIQ 5 uses an electronic gearshift lever integrated on the steering wheel, so that the space between the driver’s seat and the passenger on the side seat is connected. The car’s seats, headrests, door trims, floors and armrests are all made from recycled materials including recycled PET bottles, plant-based fibers and natural wool.

Eco-treated interior leather, instrument panel, switches, steering wheel and doors use special bio-coating extracted from plants. IONIQ 5 will have a trunk capacity of up to 531 liters and if the second row of seats is fully folded, the rear compartment capacity can be up to 1,600 liters.

IONIQ 5 is a BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) pure electric vehicle with a rechargeable battery system with a capacity of 72.6kWh, meeting the most advanced 400V/800V dual electrical structure, allowing compatibility with a 350kW DC fast charger with a speed of charge from 10 – 80% in just 18 minutes and 56 minutes with a 50kW charging station to charge from 20 – 80%. If using the standard 10.9 kW AC charger, it only takes 6.6 hours to fully charge 100%.

The IONIQ 5 model introduced in Vietnam possesses all of Hyundai’s most advanced battery charging technologies, with a capacity of 217 horsepower and maximum torque of 350Nm provided by a motor mounted on rear axle. The maximum speed of the car is limited to 185 km / h and the ability to accelerate from 0-100 km / h in 7.4 seconds.

With the characteristic of the electric motor’s immediate response, the vehicle’s power and torque will be achieved right from the moment the accelerator pedal is impacted. The vehicle is capable of traveling up to 450km on a single charge under normal operating conditions. The battery is placed flat on the floor and has a 3,000mm wheelbase.

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 electric car was launched before the “brother” Kia EV6 – an electric vehicle developed on the same platform as the Hyundai IONIQ 5. As planned, Kia Vietnam will distribute the EV6 as an imported car around the second quarter of this year. 2022.
