Ballesteros play golf creatively

The late Seve Ballesteros escaped the bunker and chip with a 3 iron, “jumping” the ball or closing the hole with the tip of the putter.

Ballesteros died in 2011, after a three-year battle with brain cancer. Last May 7 – the same day of his death, the Twitter page “Flushing It” posted a memorial video to remind the golf world more about the creativity and virtuosity in golf techniques of the late Spanish player.

Golf Techniques by Seve Ballesteros

Ballesteros golf demonstration video posted on Twitter account Flushing It.

At the beginning of the video, Ballesteros suggests: “I want to use a 3 iron to handle these situations, but a sand wedge or a lob wedge is easy.”

After the prologue, Ballesteros performed a quick escape from the bunker with a 3 iron instead of a specialized sand wedge to bring the ball closer to the pennant. Next, he turned the club face up to pitch the ball, even passing it through his left foot to near the hole.

With a putter, Ballesteros uses the shaft to successfully close the hole. Nearly two meters from the hole, he twice gave the ball a “jumping ball”, the first shot missed the target but the second shot was neat.

“It’s not too hard to put the ball over,” Ballesteros joked.

He even put his hand behind his right thigh, his right foot clamped the putter, and his left foot was used as a pillar and still drove the ball in even though it was about 1.8 meters from the hole. Then Ballesteros had three more unconventional holes, the first with the putter, also on target, and the second two with the heel with a 50% chance of hitting.

Near the end of the video, Ballesteros uses the opposite side of the putter to pull the ball back, around his head to return to the hole. He succeeded on the third attempt.

At the end, Ballesteros said, “Why do we need sand wedges with a 60 or 62-degree face? Here we have a 3 iron and I use it to chip and pitch. And because So I always say the R&A and the USGA have to review and adjust the rules. Otherwise, the game becomes too easy for the pros.”
