Along with 27 years of normalizing Vietnam-US relations, the two ministries have implemented many substantive and effective cooperation activities.

The Minister shared that the Government of Vietnam has approved and is actively implementing the Strategy for Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development, orienting Vietnam to become a country responsible for food security and the environment. Global.

Vietnam’s agricultural industry is transforming towards green agriculture. Vietnam has participated in many initiatives with the US, other countries and international organizations.

The Minister suggested the US side continue to support Vietnam in both financial and technical resources through specific actions so that Vietnam can strengthen its capacity and successfully implement global initiatives, transform Green, environmentally friendly and low emission agriculture.

The Minister expressed his thanks to the US Department of Agriculture in the process of advocating and supporting Vietnam to get positive results in the anti-dumping investigation against Vietnamese honey in the US market.

At the same time, the two sides are actively implementing the Agreement on control of illegal logging and trade in order to close the 301 investigation into Vietnam’s wood industry.

Minister Le Minh Hoan suggested the US side continue to pay attention and offer specific technical support packages for Vietnam to better implement the commitments in the agreement between the two sides, such as: (i) Capacity building for Vietnamese agencies on law enforcement in timber and timber products trade, forest resource survey; (ii) Capacity building in the management of forest environmental services (PFES) to better fulfill commitments on sustainable forest development, creating livelihoods for people.

Discussing issues related to market opening, the minister announced that the US is currently the largest poultry meat exporter to Vietnam; The second largest beef exporter and the sixth largest pork exporter among poultry, beef and pork exporters to Vietnam.

In addition, Vietnam has allowed the US to export 171 types of plant seeds, 1 fresh tuber is a potato, and 6 types of fresh fruit. And currently, Vietnam is coordinating with the US to carry out procedures to open the market for many types of American fruit. To continue those efforts, the minister asked the US side to accelerate the progress and soon complete the opening of the market so that Vietnamese pomelos can soon be available in the US.

Regarding scientific and technological cooperation, the Minister thanked the US side for supporting Vietnam in a number of projects and technical assistance in the past time in the fields of disease control, climate change adaptation, application. high technology.

On behalf of the US Department of Agriculture, Deputy Minister Jason Hafemeister affirmed that the US always considers Vietnam as one of the leading partners in agriculture and the two countries’ agriculture is complementary for mutual development.

Deputy Minister Jason Hafemeister announced that the opening of Vietnam’s pomelos is being actively promoted. The US side has announced to collect public comments from February 2022 and is currently synthesizing comments to announce as soon as possible.

Deputy Minister Jason Hafemeister emphasized that cooperation to strengthen capacity on sustainable development and climate change is a top priority of the US Government today. At the same time, the US is also developing a plan for COP27 to continue promoting the initiatives that have been and are being implemented.

In order to realize the aforementioned cooperation opportunities, the two sides agreed to direct the specialized agencies of the two ministries to actively cooperate and discuss more deeply to come up with the best solutions in promoting the opening of the economy. markets, scientific and technological cooperation, promoting sustainable development, responding to climate change.
