‘I just want to see you again’

Swallowing tears inside

Ms. Tran Thi Bay (62 years old, Thang Hai commune, Ham Tan district, Binh Thuan) is the mother who gave her daughter to a French couple to adopt 25 years ago because of difficult circumstances.

Bay was born in the sunny and windy land of Quang Tri, then got married and gave birth here. In the late 80s, she left her hometown, took her 3 children with her to Binh Thuan, then Ba Ria Vung Tau to earn a living and then moved on with her second husband who had the same difficult situation as me. .

Life as a hired laborer is not enough to feed a few mouths. Remembering those hungry days, Mrs. Bay burst into tears and told PV Dan Tri: “I often go hungry to import vegetables to sell around the neighborhood. But the profit is not worth much. One day, the house no longer takes a single penny. rice”.

The situation was so difficult that she had to let her first two children go to rent, keep cows for the rich with land and gardens to earn food. In 1996, she was pregnant with her fourth child. When she heard the news of her pregnancy, she was both happy and excited. Having more children is a blessing from God, but in this situation, she knows how to raise children or send them to school.

On March 19, 1997, Ms. Bay gave birth to a baby girl at the Medical Center of Xuyen Moc district (Ba Ria Vung Tau). Baby has a very beautiful name is Phan Thi Giang Ha. Looking at the beautiful, plump child in her arms, the couple told themselves that even if it was difficult, they would try to raise their child.

But God seems to continue to test Mrs. Bay. After giving birth to Ha, she became weaker and weaker, her legs inexplicably numb and difficult to move.

“When I went to the hospital for treatment, I had to leave my daughter at home. After I got home from the hospital, my husband said he had put her up for adoption. He didn’t discuss this with me in advance, so I was shocked. and cried a lot. At that time, the baby was only 20 days old,” said Mrs. Bay sadly.

Although she loved her children and felt sorry for them, but when she heard her husband say she had to let her children go, she would have a happy and full life. She had to swallow her tears and obey her husband’s will.

A few days later, Ms. Bay went to a hotel in Phu Nhuan district, Ho Chi Minh City to sign the relevant documents. She was able to hold Ha in her arms for the last time, trembling to hug and kiss her son and transmit to him the warmth of motherly love.

Here, Mrs. Bay cried while signing the acceptance paper for her child. “I agree to sign the paper on the condition that I will know information about my child and keep the documents related to this incident. The woman connected and a lawyer then agreed to my request. However. they told me to go back first, later they will transfer the papers to me later”, Mrs. Bay sighed while talking to PV.

25 years of waiting for news

Not until later with regrets about her decision to give her children, but at the moment of saying goodbye to her baby less than a month old in Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Bay regretted it. But looking back at the poor, poor family of her husband and wife, she gritted her teeth and went back to her hometown.

A few months later, Ms. Bay received 500,000 VND, some clothes, pictures and a handwritten letter from France that she still preserves to this day. Knowing that the child is at peace, living a new life, the mother is both sad and happy.

Although she had set the condition that she would know information about her child when she signed a paper for her son, after that first letter, Ms. Bay was silent about Giang Ha’s life with her adoptive parents in France.

The reason was that not long after that, the family had a fire and then moved from Vung Tau to Binh Thuan to live, so all the address information of Giang Ha’s adoptive parents was lost.

During the 25 years since the day she gave birth to her daughter and then lost her news, almost every night she slept thinking about her daughter, she kept crying and then fell asleep for many nights in a row.

After many years just waiting to hear from you, not wanting to disturb your new life, but now Mrs. Bay has changed her mind.

“3 years ago, I felt my health was weakening, I thought my time was running out. So me and my children tried to find a way to get my daughter back. I constantly wondered if she had a good life. What is your child like now? Are you married?…”, Mrs. Bay told Thanh Nien newspaper why she wanted to find a child.

But the information about her daughter, about the place where the procedures were carried out to receive the child were very vague in her mind, so the journey to find her child was like finding a needle in the sea.

“If I had to choose again, I certainly wouldn’t give it to my children. But maybe it’s too late. If you’re listening to me, I just want to be able to see you once. I hope I understand that you have never stopped missing and loving me”, Ms. Bay wanted to convey through the press and social networks to her dear daughter.

Mr. Tran Phi Cuong (36 years old, son of Bay) has been helping his mother to find her younger sister, Giang Ha, all this time. He wants through netizens, especially overseas Vietnamese in France, if there are clues or information, please connect with his family to fulfill his mother’s wish when she gets old.

Talking to the above source, Mr. Cuong said: “I am a father, so I understand my mother’s heart. She is very weak now, and I know how much she wants to find her sister. Even though she is, I’m a half-brother from a different father, but I still consider her as my own younger brother. I hope one day my mother’s wishes will be fulfilled.”
