Apple continues to dominate the US smartphone market, far ahead of competitors

According to a report from global technology market analysis firm Canalys, smartphone shipments hit a record high in Q1 2022, with total shipments increasing by nearly 4% year-on-year. Of all the firms, Apple dominated and trailed its competitors.

In the North American market, Apple accounted for 51% of the market, up 19% year-over-year. Apple was able to achieve this thanks to strong sales of the iPhone 13. Due to uncertainties in the international market, Canalys reports that Apple has moved inventory to North America. This allows them to capture more market share by quickly processing orders. Canalys said that in addition to the iPhone 13, the iPhone SE also has great potential, attracting customers with more affordable options.

Following Apple, Samsung only achieved a total market share of 27% in Q1 2022 in the US, despite having more products. Surprisingly, Lenovo took third place, replacing LG, which shut down its smartphone business early last year.

Despite Google’s recent push with Pixel devices, it captures only 3% of the total market share. However, Canalys thinks that could change this year with the release of the Pixel 7, Pixel 6a, Pixel Watch and Pixel Buds Pro.
