White spots on the tongue could be a sign of these things

1. Injury

This injury can occur during chewing, causing the tongue to be bitten. Usually, these won’t hurt for long, but in cases of strong bite force, sores can form and cause pain. If this situation happens too many times, you can actively visit your dentist to handle sharp teeth.

2. Candida

Candidiasis is an infection that leads to an overgrowth of yeast in the oral cavity. This condition, which usually occurs in people who smoke or has a dry mouth, causes small white spots no more than 1cm wide on the main surface of the tongue where the taste cells are located.

People with weakened immune systems have a higher risk of developing more severe candidiasis. Some other symptoms of this disease are:

– Hurt

– Red swelling

– Decreased taste

-It feels like there’s cotton in my mouth

– People with Candida should use antifungal drugs prescribed by their doctor.

3. Map tongue disease

Map tongue is an inflammatory condition, resulting in the appearance of white, red patches that may have slightly raised borders and rapidly change shape and position after only a few hours. At present, the exact cause of this disease has not been fully determined, it can only be conjectured that it is related to the genetic component. This is a harmless and non-contagious disease.

There is currently no definitive treatment for map tongue disease. If you are too uncomfortable with this condition, you can see your doctor for help with pain relievers.

4. Flat Lichen Disease

Oral lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory condition that occurs when the immune system attacks the inner cells of the mucous membranes. A common sign of the disease is white patches of lace-like material on the tongue or in the cheeks. This condition mainly occurs in middle-aged women who are immunocompromised. Some of the presumed causes of this disease are:

– Use of certain drugs

– Infection

– Allergens

– Stress

– Trauma to the mouth.

If you suspect you have this disease, you need to go to medical facilities to have a biopsy under the guidance of a doctor.

5. HPV

HPV is a sexually transmitted infection that affects not only the genitals but also the mouth and throat. On the tongue, the HPV virus can cause white spots that rise above the surface.

6. Precancerous or cancerous

The most serious potential cause of white spots on the tongue is precancerous or cancerous. The two cancers that stand out with this sign are leukoplakia and squamous cell carcinoma. Experts say that no matter how much you suspect you have, a biopsy is important to work out the right treatment plan.
