LG launches the first smartphone with a 360-degree folding screen

At the 2022 SID Display Week Expo, LG has revealed that its research team has successfully developed a device using a foldable OLED screen with an opening angle of up to 360 degrees.

Accordingly, this screen will have a size of 8.03 inches when unfolded horizontally. It can be folded inward or outward at any angle from 0 to 360 degrees with great ease.

In terms of detailed specifications, this OLED screen will have a resolution of 2480 x 2200 pixels allowing for sharp 413 PPI, 109.9 % coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut, and a panel for brightness. 430 nits and can reach peak brightness up to 600 nits.

In terms of durability, LG equips the OLED screen with foldable UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) technology. At the same time, the outer screen is covered with an anti-fingerprint material to keep the device shiny and eye-catching.

According to LG, the 360-degree foldable OLED display will last up to 200,000 folds under normal use.

In addition to smartphone panels, LG also launched an OLED panel that can be folded horizontally 180 degrees with a large size of 17 inches. This product is likely to appear on laptops in the near future.

Currently, major phone companies in the world are aiming to research and produce smartphones with folding or flexible screens. Specifically, Samsung and Xiaomi develop products that are able to fold inward, while Huawei offers solutions in the opposite direction. In it, Oppo is also working on rolling screen phones.
