Shooting on subway in New York City, one person was killed

New York City police said the case shoot happened just before noon on May 22 (local time) on a Q train crossing the Manhattan Bridge. The 48-year-old victim died at the hospital.

New York Police Chief Kenneth Corey told reporters the shooting appeared to be a random attack, occurring while the victim was sitting in the last car of the train running from Brooklyn to Manhattan: the witnesses, the suspect walked back and forth on the train car and did not act provocatively, then suddenly pulled out a gun and shot the victim at close range.”

Subject shootings fled after the train arrived at Canal Street Station in Manhattan. Police are examining the security video to try to identify the suspect, Mr. Corey said.

Recent subway crime has put New Yorkers in danger. In April 2022, a man opened fire inside a subway train in Brooklyn, injuring 10 people. The shooter was charged with terrorism and other offences. In January, a woman was pushed down the tracks by a stranger and died in front of the subway train.

Since taking office on January 1, Mayor Eric Adams has made cracking down on violent crime a primary focus of the New York government.
