Movie ‘Em and Trinh’ showing two versions at the same time

Luong Cong Hieu – representative Galaxy, the film’s distributor – said that after reviewing nearly 1,000 hours of filming, the crew decided to divide the work into two copies. “After 5 years of pursuing the project, we are confident in the quality and difference of the two films,” said Mr. Hieu.

The 95-minute version is called Trinh Cong Son, focusing on the musician’s youth (played by Avin Lu). Pink shadows like Diem Xua, Dao Anh, Thanh Thuy, Khanh Ly became his inspiration to write music. The film recreates the years when musicians lived during the war, overcoming suffering and composing immortal love songs.

The 136-minute version is titled Me and Trinh, in addition to the story of his youth, the film has an additional story line between middle-aged Trinh Cong Son (Tran Luc) and Michiko Yoshii (Nakatani Akari). The film portrays a musician more closely, when he is no longer at the peak of his career, worrying about losing his composing inspiration and having an age gap love affair with a Japanese schoolgirl.

Mr. Hieu said: “The release of two film versions of Trinh Cong Son will give a more complete view of the musician. We hope that audiences of all ages, life experiences… will find the image. a Trinh Cong Son of his own”.

Me and Trinh Filmed in early November 2020, was once expected to be released in 2021 – the 20th anniversary of Trinh’s death – but had to be postponed because of the epidemic. The work has an estimated budget of 40 billion VND, after filming is 50 billion VND, mainly invested in the context from the 1960s to the 1990s. The film consists of 40 key actors, 3,000 public roles, and many experience scenes. from Hue to Ho Chi Minh City. About 1,000 costumes were used over two months of filming.

Director Phan Gia Nhat Linh admitted to being reckless when he accepted to make a biopic, because this genre was not yet popular in the country. He said: “Since the film has not been filmed, I have been subjected to many criticisms from the audience. I accept and hope the film succeeds so that the producers have the motivation to do similar works.” Singer Trinh Vinh Trinh – Trinh Cong Son’s sister – cried while watching the movie during a special screening for his family. Following the film crew during the filming days in Da Lat and Hue, the singer was touched by the team’s dedication to the project about her brother.

Director Nguyen Quang Dung works as a production consultant. He is the son of the late writer Nguyen Quang Sang – one of Trinh Cong Son’s close friends. The family of the late musician said that he had contributed ideas to the crew about the script but respected the director’s own creativity.
