Dior perfume sales increased sharply. Products advertised by Johnny Depp are out of stock in the UK and US.

Data from Hey Discount shows that demand for the Dior Sauvage fragrance was exploding in the weeks when the lawsuit began. In just one month, searches for this fragrance increased by 48%. In March, searches reached 823,000. This number increased to 1.2 million in April.

Views of French brand’s perfume videos on social media also increased by 63%. During the time of the lawsuit, views reached 209 million.

According to Google search data, Dior Sauvage is currently the 2nd most popular perfume in the world, behind Baccarat Rouge 540 by Maison Francis Kurkdjian.

The relationship between brands and celebrities

Johnny Depp became the face of the men’s fragrance line Dior in 2015. The French brand has shown unwavering support for the actor throughout the legal battle.

This decision caused the French brand to encounter a series of mixed opinions. Anti-abuse campaigners have criticized Dior’s decision.

Attorney Rachel Horman-Brown said:Dior is irresponsible and let me down. Allegations show that Depp was abusive to his partner and was almost called a wife beater, but Dior still cooperated with him. This act almost condone abuse and violence against women“.

Before the controversy, Dior representatives declined to comment.
