Green vegetables price increase rapidly, consumers “burn their hands”

Prolonged heavy rain caused the price of green vegetables to soar in Hanoi. There are double and triple types.

As noted by PV Dan Tri, the price of green vegetables at the local markets in Hanoi is increasing by 2, 3 times compared to the previous week. Spinach from 10,000 VND/bundle, water spinach from 13,000 – 15,000 VND/bundle, cabbage 20,000 VND/kg, broccoli from 50,000 VND/kg, broccoli from 40,000 VND/kg, cabbage chips, collard greens, collard greens from 30,000 VND/kg…

Ms. Thu Phuong, a vegetable seller on Tran Thai Tong Street (Hanoi), said that vegetable prices have continuously increased since last weekend due to prolonged heavy rain. At one time, water spinach was sold for 20,000 VND/bundle because there was no stock.

“The prolonged heavy rain caused the vegetable granaries in Hanoi and surrounding areas to become inundated. Even water-resistant vegetables such as water spinach and celery are also crushed, rotten, crushed and of poor quality. Some tubers and fruits that are less affected by rain, such as melons, cucumbers, gourds, and squash, also increase in price when the amount of vegetables in the market is small,” she said.

According to Ms. Phuong, the recent increase in gasoline prices has also caused the prices of other items to increase. Through each adjustment in the price of gasoline, vegetables, tubers and fruits increase from 1,000 VND to 2,000 VND/kg due to increased transportation charges.

In Ha Dong area (Hanoi), the price of green vegetables also increased rapidly. Water spinach increased from 8,000 VND/bundle to 13,000 VND/bundle, spinach increased from 5,000 VND/bundle to 9,000 – 10,000 VND/bundle, sweet spinach increased to 38,000 VND/kg. Fruits and vegetables such as melons, tomatoes, and potatoes were sold for 15,000 VND/kg, 20,000 VND/kg, and 30,000 VND/kg, respectively, an increase of 2,000 – 3,000 VND/kg compared to the previous week.

With this weather situation, Ms. Thao at Phung Khoang market (Hanoi) also said that vegetable prices may increase even higher if the rain does not decrease. Currently, it is quite difficult for small traders to import vegetables because wholesale markets are also quite scarce. “The amount of goods I have imported in recent days is only half of what it was before. Partly because of the lack of supply, on the other hand, because of the high price of vegetables, consumers are quite hesitant to put money down,” she said.

Holding money to go to the market these days, Ms. Thuy Dung (My Dinh, Hanoi) feels like she is “pickpocketed” because each vegetable alone costs her nearly 100,000 VND. Last month, she only needed to spend 8,000 – 10,000 VND to buy enough vegetables for a day, but now that number has to be doubled or even tripled.

According to Ms. Dung, not only green vegetables, many other items such as cooking oil, instant noodles, main noodles, sugar… have also increased in price recently. In which, cooking oil increased the fastest when the 1-liter bottle of cooking oil increased by 50% compared to the beginning of the year. Not to mention, many other items also simultaneously “dropped water with the rain” increased with gasoline prices.
