The Kremlin said on March 14 that Russian forces could take full control of major cities of the country Ukraine and this force has enough military power to carry out all its goals in Ukraine without any help from China.
The United States and its European allies consider President Vladimir Putin’s campaign “underperformed” to date because Moscow underestimates Ukraine’s resistance and the West’s determination to punish Russia.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov replied: “The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, while ensuring maximum safety for civilians, does not rule out the possibility of taking full control of major population centers.”
Peskov said statements by the United States and the European Union that “Putin was disappointed with the progress of the special operation” were like a provocation aimed at motivating Russia to attack cities in Ukraine.
According to Peskov, the US did not care about human life when it bombed Yugoslavia and its capital Belgrade in 1999, during the wars in the Middle East and the invasion of Afghanistan.
“We don’t need advice from such strategists,” Peskov said. “All the plans of the Russian leadership will be achieved on time and in full.”
Mr. Peskov said that at the beginning of the operation, Putin had explicitly requested that the Russian Defense Ministry avoid landing in large and densely populated cities like Kyiv to avoid risks to civilians. He said several Ukrainian cities were surrounded by Russian forces.
Asked about comments by US officials, who have said that Russia has asked China for military equipment, Peskov replied: “Not at all.”
“Russia has its own independent potential to continue operating. As we have said, everything is going according to plan and will be completed on time and in full.”
