By using guard own planet, China Global gravity field data was detected for the first time, and officially became the third country in the world to measure this data, after the US and Germany.

The Global Times newspaper quoted Mr. Luo Jun, the science The main part of the Tianqin gravitational wave detection program, said that China’s Tianqin-1 satellite recently obtained data of the Earth’s gravitational field. This satellite was launched into space in December 2019.

According to scientists, this data has great strategic significance for the economy and people’s lives. Specifically, it will be used in the purposes of geodesy, geophysics, oil and gas resource exploration, defense and security, and help respond to global climate change as well as prevent and reduce mild disaster.

In August 2020, Tianqin-1 performed a gravitational field experiment for about 30 hours. During this time, the receiver of the Global Navigation Satellite System and the inertial sensor of Tianqin-1 were activated, and the satellite’s flight path basically covered the whole world.

With the obtained data, the Tianqin project team wrote a scientific report on the global gravitational field data. However, the measurement of the gravitational field of Tianqin-1 is not very accurate.

However, Mr. Luo Jun said the result was especially meaningful as it laid the technical foundation for China’s next gravity satellite program.

Tianqin-1 is not a special gravity satellite since its purpose is to verify important technologies for detecting gravitational waves in space, but it has still achieved unexpected breakthroughs.

Sun Heping, a scholar at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), commented that Tianqin-1 not only completed the technical verification tasks, but also obtained results that exceeded expectations when it became China’s first satellite. China measures the gravitational field.

Luo revealed that the Tianqin-2 satellite project is also progressing actively. Soon, two satellites will be put into orbit during the Tianqin-2 mission to test the gravitational field.

Then, in the Tianqin-3 project, three satellites will be sent into space. The final program will have three satellites forming an equilateral triangle around the Earth.
