On March 18, US President Joe Biden had a phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The main content of the call was to discuss issues related to the current tension in Ukraine.

The call lasted almost 2 hours. According to information from the US press, during this phone call, the US President asked China to support US and Western sanctions on Russia.

While the Chinese President affirmed that tension in Ukraine is not desirable. These events once again show that conflict and confrontation do not benefit either side.

The phone conversation between the two leaders took place a few days after Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi held talks with US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan in Rome (Italy).

The phone calls are part of an effort to maintain communication channels and control competition between Beijing and Washington and were made in the context of Russia-Ukraine tensions with no signs of ending.

According to White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki, this will be an opportunity for both sides to understand each other’s views on the Ukraine conflict.
