Musician Hong Dang, a great tree of Vietnamese music, passed away on the morning of March 21, at the age of 86.

Musician Hong Dang, whose full name is Phan Dang Hong, was born in 1936 in Yen Thanh district, Nghe An province and is the grandson of revolutionary Phan Dang Luu. He was former Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Musicians Association, courses IV and V, Editor-in-Chief of Music Magazine (since 1989), and World of Music (since 1996). Musician Hong Dang is credited with initiating the program Half a century of Vietnamese music and he himself was honored in Musical path 2000. On October 28, 2021, he was awarded the Grand Prize “Bui Xuan Phai – For the love of Hanoi” for his outstanding contributions to the Capital’s music industry.

Composer Hong Dang composed more than 700 works of various genres. He wrote many famous soundtrack songs such as Milk flowers, Floating, The sea sings this afternoon, Nostalgia for the ocean night… In it, the song Flower milk written by him for the movie Hanoi bird nest season by director Duc Hoan in 1978 became a song that goes along with the years, and will live forever in the hearts of music lovers.
