Novak Djokovic returns to number 1 in the tennis world

After the troubles related to the Covid-19 vaccine and being deported from Australia, Novak Djokovic lost the world No. 1 position to Daniil Medvedev on February 28.

Even so, Medvedev could not sit for long on the highest position in the world.

Medvedev – the 27th player in history to take the No. 1 ATP title – lost to Gael Monfils in the second round at Indian Wells, in the Masters 1000.

This result forced the Russian tennis player to cede the No. 1 position to Djokovic.

Although not allowed to compete at Indian Wells, the Serbian player still has 8,465 points. Medvedev fell to second place with 8,445 points.

This year, Djokovic has only played an official tournament. It was an event in Dubai, where he lost to Jiri Vesely (Czech Republic) in the quarterfinals with a score of 4-6, 6-7.

Rafael Nadalwho had just lost to Taylor Fritz in the Indian Wells final, has returned to the top 3 of the ATP rankings.

The loss to Fritz also ended Nadal’s 20-match unbeaten streak in 2022.

Regarding Djokovic, it was recently confirmed that he would not be able to attend the Canadian Open, the Masters 1000 event in August.

“As of today, Djokovic cannot compete in the tournament in Canada”Eugene Lapierre, director of the Canada Masters confirmed in conversation with Le Journal de Montreal.
