Polking: ‘History will power Thailand to hunt for SEA Games gold medal’

Because the final round of the Thai Championship ended late, until yesterday 5/5, coach Polking had four more players to practice with enough troops. However, the German-Brazilian military leader affirmed that Thailand’s goal at the 31st SEA Games is still to win the men’s football gold medal.

Since the congress was named SEA Games in 1977, Thailand has won 14 gold medals in men’s football. “Thailand has a heroic history in men’s football at the SEA Games. I believe it will be an important fulcrum, helping us to conquer the top throne in Vietnam this year,” emphasized Polking.

Before going to Vietnam on May 4, Polking made a list of 20 players attending the 31st SEA Games, with three over-aged players including goalkeeper Kawin, midfielder Weerathep Pomphan and Worachit Kanitsribampen. They have three players playing in Europe, including Benjamin Davis (Oxford United – England), Jonathan Khemdee (OB – Denmark) and Chayapipat Supunpasuch (Estoril, Portugal).

“I am very satisfied with the current team. A large number of players in the team have trained and competed together in a number of regional tournaments. It is true that the time to gather the whole team is a bit tight because of objective circumstances. , I think the team still has a certain cohesion and understanding,” added Mr. Polking.

In the opening match tomorrow, May 7, Thailand will play Malaysia. Polking determined this was the most difficult match of his teachers and students in the group stage. But this coach is also confident because he thinks that Thailand has met the team, analyzed in detail to propose the right strategy and tactics for this match.

After Malaysia, Thailand will meet Singapore, Cambodia and Laos respectively in Group B. “We set specific targets on points, even the number of goals for each match. But only when the team is sure to win. Tickets go on, only Thailand will calculate who will meet the next opponent in the semi-finals,” Polking revealed.
