Why did Juventus leave Dybala?

ItalyRelations between the two parties cracked in 2017 and the signing of Dusan Vlahovic was like a “drop of water” which made Juventus decide to release Paulo Dybala freely in the summer of 2022.

After the Champions League last 16 draw in December 2017, in which Juventus met Tottenham, Vice President Pavel Nedved warned for the first time Dybala. “Obviously Juventus have to help Dybala find his true form,” he told sports mediaset. “He has to sacrifice a lot more in his personal life, to give his best in training. That’s my only suggestion for Dybala to be a top player. Dybala is only 24 years old and is not playing well. The decision is normal. Dybala also knows that Juventus supports him and is ready to support him at any time.”

At that time, the Argentine striker was undergoing the most difficult period in Turin, with a decline in performance. But he quickly returned when he helped Juventus to the Champions League quarter-finals. 1/8 first leg against Tottenham, Juventus were held to a 2-2 draw at home. In the second leg in London, Dybala scored the decisive goal to help Juventus win 2-1, and continued with a total score of 4-3. Without Dybala’s goal, the “Old Lady” would have been disqualified by the away goals rule.

In the summer of 2019, Juventus first put Dybala on the transfer floor, when an agreement was reached with Manchester United about the exchange of the Argentine striker for service Romelu Lukaku. The deal collapsed at the last minute when the England team did not receive a weekly salary of 460,000 USD at Dybala’s request.

Dybala also refuses to move Tottenham, and continued to stick with Juventus. It was the right decision, as Dybala was named Serie A Player of the 2019-2020 season, making a big contribution to Juventus under Juventus’ leadership. Maurizio Sarri champion. That season, he scored 17 goals in all competitions, trailing only Cristiano Ronaldo – who had 37 goals.

In December 2020, Dybala complained that he was not being paid by Juventus. He only receives $8 million per season under contract until the summer of 2022, the same remuneration as Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot, and less. Matthijs de Ligt – The Dutch midfielder earns $8.7 million per season. “My agent has been in Turin for a long time without being contacted by Juventus,” Dybala said. “I am disappointed to hear of the investment. It would be better if the truth could be told, because of the love I have for Juventus.”

chairman Andrea Agnelli said a few days later: “I am happy to know Dybala’s love for Juventus. That love will be reciprocated. We consider him the future captain of Juventus. We have offered him a contract. Will put Dybala in the top 20 highest paid players in Europe. We are still waiting for his answer “But the most important thing is the performance on the pitch. We want Dybala to be in the top 5 of the best players in Europe. Dybala isn’t one of them yet, and he knows him.”

In October 2021, Dybala reached a four-year extension agreement with Juventus, earning a seasonal salary of over 12 million USD. However Dybala has not officially signed a contract, partly because his agent – Jorge Antun – has not been registered as a professional football agent.

“I’m used to being the one who does the talking. Today, many players are loyal to their agents, rather than the club uniform,” Chief Executive Maurizio Arrivabene said two months later. “Dybala is Juventus’ No. 10, and De Ligt is a great defender. They have to do a good job, and we will look after us. But both sides also have to have a good relationship. It’s easy to say. club, but you have to prove it on the pitch. And we want Dybala to prove it.”

In January 2022, after scoring in a 2-0 win over Udinese in the 22nd round of Serie A, Dybala did not celebrate the goal, but turned his eyes to Juventus’ leadership position in the stands, where there were appearances by Juventus. Arrivabene and Nedved. “I invited a friend to watch, and I couldn’t see him. There were too many people in the stands,” explained the 28-year-old striker after the game.

But Juventus did not like Dybala’s reaction. Less than two weeks later, they 85 million USD recruited Vlahovic from Fiorentina. This was also when the Turin team decided that Dybala was no longer in the club’s plans. Juventus then withdrew the offer it made at the end of last year, and stopped negotiating with Dybala. On March 21, Arrivabene explained that offering Dybala a lower salary was disrespectful.

On the same day, Jorge Antun and Carlos Novel, two of Dybala’s representatives, spoke with Juventus sporting director Federico Cherubini for two hours at the club’s headquarters in Continassa. President Agnelli was not present in these negotiations, and left Juventus headquarters shortly before Dybala’s representatives appeared. But a few minutes after the two left, Agnelli was back in Continassa.

Based on La Republika, Cherubini frankly said that Juventus did not want to extend the contract with Dybala. “Negotiations are also pointless, we will not keep Dybala,” Cherubini told Antun. Juventus’ decision shocked Dybala and his brother Gustavo. “Amazing,” wrote Gustavo on Instagram.
