Negative for SARS-CoV-2, a 6-year-old child (Yen Son, Tuyen Quang) was taken by his family for a follow-up examination COVID-19 at Hung Vuong General Hospital (Phu Tho) on March 21.

At the hospital, the baby had chest pain, was tired, and was eating and drinking normally. However, the test showed an abnormal increase in Troponin index (diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome). After doing electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, measuring EF (ejection fraction), doctors diagnosed the baby with acute myocarditis.

The child was transferred to the National Children’s Hospital for further treatment. One day later, the baby became very serious and critical, had to run ECMO (cardiopulmonary bypass), active resuscitation, severe prognosis.

According to Mr. Pham Van Hoc, General Director of the hospital, acute myocarditis has a high mortality rate. There are cases where children are detected early, transferred to the hospital immediately, but on the way there is cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, heart compression, endotracheal intubation, and balloon ballooning on the ambulance.

Therefore, Mr. Hoc warned parents that seeing children with unusual symptoms such as prolonged fatigue, chest pain, abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, low-grade fever, difficulty breathing, rapid pulse, fever, etc., should take their child to a doctor. for early detection and prompt treatment.
