Carla Brizuela-Perez, born in 1982, is an ordinary Filipino girl, raised in a family with only a single mother and very struggling. This little girl’s life changed when suddenly one day in 1996, Carla learned that her biological father was a king – the King of Pahang state, Malaysia.

At the age of 6, Carla and her mother immigrated to America. To raise her daughter, her mother worked as a nurse and never asked for subsidies or help from her biological father Carla.
But Carla doesn’t want to bring up her mother’s old story. Because from what she learned, the story of a king in Malaysia and a young nurse ending with an illegitimate daughter is not exactly a fairy tale love story.
One night in 1996, when Carla was 14 years old, her mother and daughter received a call. The caller Michael, the lawyer representing the King (Sultan) of Pahang state, Malaysia said that his owner, also the biological father, wants to meet Carla.

The strange relationship between Carla and her father has only one connection through the lawyer Michael. She took the initiative to email Michael to ask when she could see her father again. Every time she returned to her mother’s hometown in the Philippines, she also asked if she could go to Malaysia to visit her father, but was given reasons to refuse.
“I told my dad I wanted to be a lawyer and he complimented me for it. But what really blew my mind was the unexpected remark that I looked like his eldest daughter. That made me feel good. happy to think that I have a sister far away”Carla said.
Whenever near the end of the meeting, Carla always greets with tears: “When can we see each other again?”. However, her father was always cautious, not making any promises or mentioning the last time they met. This means that Carla never knows when the last reunion will be.
Carla keeps in touch with her father, but not directly, but through Dato’ Michael – the only contact. She emailed Dato’ Michael to ask when Dad was going to London, where he owned a residence in the city and frequented it in secret.
In the end, Carla Brizuela-Perez really only had the chance to meet her biological father exactly 3 times in her life. Their last meeting was in 2003, as that was the year the King died. She only learned this information when she read the newspaper some time later.
“I really don’t know how I feel. Of course, I’m sad even though he’s not the ideal father. But I know that I would never have been born without him.”Carla said.
