Leading the school’s English team for nearly 20 years, Ms. Tran Kim Duyen (Head of Foreign Languages) said, this is the team’s highest achievement in the school’s 22-year history. In previous years, the English team often won 1-2 first prizes for excellent students in the country, and there were years when there was no first prize.

According to Ms. Duyen, the core of the English team is 12th graders, selected from three English majors. Every year, the selection of good students and fostering for the city-level exam falls at the end of June. In the middle of last year, Covid-19 was stressful, schools were closed, so they could not meet face-to-face and had to compete. Use all your spare time to work online.

Ms. Duyen said, the online review process is very hard and takes a lot of time. “There are times when both you and the students, F0 people, F1 people, are really stressed. In return, the children are very enthusiastic, passionate and united”, Ms. Duyen said.

When the school opened in December 2021, Ms. Duyen only had time to review for the children a few days before the city-level exam. Out of 10 students, five were selected for the national team along with some students from other schools.

Among the four students who won the first prize, Bui Quoc Khai and Xuan Khanh had won this achievement the previous year, when they were in grade 11. Xuan Khanh was the only female student. “I can’t forget the review days during Covid-19. In addition to studying with her, I and my friends took advantage of self-study”, Khanh recalled the second half of 2021.

Twice won the National First Prize in English, but Khanh claimed to have “no special secret” with this subject. Female students learn foreign languages ​​naturally through reading books, newspapers, and watching movies. At the secondary school level, Khanh used to compete for excellent students in English and won the first prize in the city in grades 8 and 9.

Currently, Khanh’s biggest goal is to get good results in the high school graduation exam. Khanh plans to enroll in Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Trade University.

Nguyen Cong Thai Duong (11CA2) is also a special student of the team. He was a year late in school compared to his classmates in grade 12CA2, namely Khanh, Khai, Khang, and Thinh.

Duong said, in the summer of 2020, Duong and his family moved to Hungary to live after finishing 10th grade majoring in English at Tran Dai Nghia School. In the middle of last year, due to the influence of the epidemic, Duong’s family moved back to Ho Chi Minh City. I went to my old school but had to repeat it from grade 11.

At first, the male student was a bit disappointed because his old friends were one grade older than him. Duong plans to study, speed up to catch up with friends in the English team. Thanks to the support from close friends and teachers, Duong quickly regained his form, won a place in the national team and won the first prize.

“Currently, I still haven’t thought much about choosing a career or university because I haven’t found my forte field. Studying abroad is also something I’ve thought about. But in the immediate future, I have to study well to finish the school year,” Duong shared. shall.

On March 26, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the results of the national excellent student exam for high school students in the 2021-2022 school year of 69 units, including 63 provinces and cities, along with Vietnam National University, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Pedagogical University of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Vinh University and Viet Bac High School.

This year, out of more than 4,600 students participating, more than 2,200 won the First, Second, Third and Consolation prizes.
