3 big explosions rock school in Afghanistan’s capital
Huge explosions rock schools in western Kabul, Afghanistan April 19th.
Three explosions occurred in the Dasht-e-Barchi area of Kabul, home to a large Shia Hazara community. The Shia Hazara are a minority group previously targeted by extremists, CNN reported.
“Three different explosions at Abdul Rahim Shaheed High School in District 18 have caused casualties among our Shia compatriots. We will provide further details later,” said Khalid Zadran, a police chief spokesman. Kabul information on April 19.
Two witnesses CNN spoke to at Dasht-e-Barchi said the blasts targeted a high school and educational center in the area.
Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran told AFP that two explosive devices were located outside Abdul Rahim Shahid High School in the Dasht-e-Barchi neighborhood, west of the capital.
One witness said that the latest explosions in the Afghan capital occurred at a time when classes were in the morning. The victims were taken to the hospital.
Attacks on public targets have decreased since Taliban took control of Afghanistan last August, but the terrorist group IS continues to operate across the country.
Taliban officials claim to have defeated IS, but analysts say the group is a key security challenge for the force that rules Afghanistan.
In May last year, at least 85 people – mostly female students – were killed and around 300 injured when three bombs exploded near a school in Dasht-e-Barchi.
In October 2020, IS announced a suicide attack on an educational center in the same area, killing 24 people, including students.
