However, it is not until now that this phenomenon has caused a stir in public opinion. Every year, at the time when students are about to enter the 10th grade exam, many parents angrily complain about being encouraged and forced by teachers not to let their children take the 10th grade exam. Faced with this situation, in 2016, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training had to issue a regulation, in case of not registering for the 10th grade entrance exam, a voluntary application from the student’s parents is required. However, years later, this phenomenon is still constantly reflected by parents. Some parents said that teachers even “personally advise” parents to write a voluntary application for their children not to take the public 10th grade exam but to transfer to a vocational school.

At the end of June 2020, some parents of Thanh Tri Secondary School (Hoang Mai) voiced “accusations” that the school put pressure on students who failed to enter the public 10th grade exam because they thought that “with that learning ability, It is very difficult to pass the exam.”

According to these parents, some parents even tearfully begged the teacher to let their children take the exam, “even if they fail, the family accepts it.” However, they received the answer that: “Now the school will give you the correct score according to your ability, by then you will not be able to take the exam because the transcript is very bad”.

Therefore, they are frustrated: “It is a choice to fail or pass, and you must be responsible for that decision. But the school’s approach seems to be taking away the rights of students, making them feel they are soon excluded from the general race.”

At the same time, parents of Phu La Secondary School (Ha Dong) also voiced “accusations” of the school for asking some parents to write a voluntary application not to let their children take the public 10th grade exam.

The administrators of both schools later denied that they “coerced” students. The school believes that, in meetings with parents of each class, teachers only report on learning results and analysis of each child’s ability and forte. Teachers only guide and advise, but all decisions still belong to students and parents.

But by 2021, this situation continues to be reflected by parents. Some parents in Hoang Mai said they were invited by their homeroom teacher to discuss privately. Because the child has weak academic performance, the teacher suggested to the family not to allow the student to take the exam for 10th grade, but to enroll directly in a private high school by means of academic records. The teacher will be responsible for “beautifying” the academic record so that the student can definitely pass the private school.

In case the family still “deliberately” lets their child register and take the exam, the scores are low, making it difficult to pass public schools in the locality (unless the student registers in a district far from the center). capital city center).
