The attitude of life makes everyone respect

Nearly 20 years ago, Ms. Ngo Thi Hoang My (53 years old, Ho Chi Minh City) was cancer blood. A disease as evil as killing the body and soul of a woman in her youth, enthusiasm and aspiration.

But it was the bewildered eyes of two children without care that prompted her not to give up, to try to get treatment, “and the water is still slapping”. At that time, she was trying to maintain a job to earn money to support her children while fighting blood cancer. Many times when her health was exhausted, she reassured herself not to let go.

All her efforts paid off when the doctor informed her that the blood cancer was in remission. Thinking that the rest of her life could be peaceful, she could shake off the burden of disease, but once again, she accepted the news that the previous chemotherapy and radiation treatment for blood cancer had affected internal organs, making her internal organs worse. She has cirrhosis of the liver. In the past 3 years, cirrhosis of the liver has progressed to the end stage, causing her to be hospitalized many times due to continuous bleeding all over her body.

Ms. Tran Thi Linh (50 years old, HCMC), the patient’s family member said: “She suffered from cirrhosis of the liver, but she endured it silently because she was afraid that her family would worry. Two years ago, she was sleeping, the blood in her mouth suddenly spilled all over the bed, everyone knew that she was hiding her illness. At that time, cirrhosis of the liver was in the final stage, her abdomen was swollen, tight, blood veins were streaked on the glossy skin, it seemed that even a light touch would explode. I can’t remember all the times my sister had nosebleeds, blood in her mouth, rolled eyes, foaming at the mouth… Going to the doctor everywhere, the doctor said, she only lived a few more months. I hugged her and cried short and long tears“.

At the beginning of January 2021, Ms. My suffered from gastrointestinal bleeding, bleeding from the mouth, and was in a coma. Her relatives took her to the emergency room at Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. CKI doctor Phan Tuan Trong, Emergency Department, Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City received the patient and said that the doctors had prescribed endoscopy, hemostasis, and treatment of gastrointestinal bleeding for the patient.

Doctor Phan Tuan Trong commented:Patients with end-stage cirrhosis should have difficulty walking, even sitting down a little tired and prone to acute injuries, the risk of death is very high. Patients need maintenance treatment to prolong life and prevent severe episodes. With the current health situation, the patient’s life will be prolonged even if he has a chronic disease in the terminal stage“.

According to Dr. Phan Tuan Trong, when he was first admitted to the hospital, the patient feared that he had only a few months to live, but now after more than a year of treatment, the patient has improved much, can eat, drink, and walk. The patient still has a strong desire for life, the doctor must devote more and more efforts to prolong the patient’s life and help the patient live a happy life. Doctors should help patients ease their pain, no longer bother about the disease, to live happily as a normal person. This is very important, contributing greatly to the success rate of treatment.

For the past three years, I have been in constant danger, sometimes thinking I was gone. Multiple visits to the emergency room. I’m not stone. I am an ordinary woman who knows sadness and pain when illness persists. But during the long years of fighting illness, I also tried to keep my spirit optimistic and try to overcome, because sadness cannot help me get healthy again. Having a chronic illness that cannot be treated, instead of living in fear and suffering, I choose to live optimistically. As long as I can live, I must be happy and meaningful that day“, My sister mused.
