The foam looks like fluffy white clouds but has a terrible stench that causes townspeople to flee, businesses to close.
“The smell is horrible. And we’ve had to deal with this foam for a long time. We’re in danger. Someone could fall into the foam and we won’t be able to find them.” Luz Mariela Gómez, a town official told local TV channels.

Pictures taken from the Mosquera show clouds of foam covering the pavement, flying everywhere, towering. A road to a school has been blocked by this polluted foam.
Local environmental authorities say the polluted foam has appeared several times in the town over the past few years. However, their size is increasing as people continue to dump waste, chemicals and detergents into the river. Heavy rains have also exacerbated the problem by causing the foam to rise and flood the town.
The mayor’s office of Mosquera shared on Twitter photos of the toxic foam. Mayor Gian Gerometta stated that the pollution that has built up is partly due to the blockage of factories on the river.
“We are aware of the risks that may arise from this phenomenon,” emphasized Mr. Gerometta.
