The call was made by Mr. Kao Kim Hourn in an interview with Reuters news agency on May 6. As planned, ASEAN leaders will come to the US to attend the US-ASEAN special meeting on May 12 and 13.

Mr. Kao Kim Hourn is currently serving as an advisor to Prime Minister Hun Sen on foreign affairs and ASEAN. According to the newspaper Khmer TimesIn 2019, he was nominated by Mr. Hun Sen for the position of Secretary-General of ASEAN for the term 2023 – 2027.
The South China Sea and Ukraine conflict are expected to be discussed at the special US-ASEAN meeting, according to Mr. Kao Kim Hourn.
