On May 16, the Osaka Court (Japan) opened a trial for the Dominican accused of assaulting and pushing a Vietnamese student into the river in August 2021.

According to the indictment, defendant Cruz Cabrera Brian Alberto repeatedly attacked the head and pushed international student Trinh Tu Anh into the Dotonbori River (in Osaka), causing the victim to drown and die.

During the trial, Alberto still insisted on denying the allegation, claiming that he was acting in self-defense. “I saved my own life. I was beaten by the victim after drinking together. It was an act of self-defense,” the defendant said.

The prosecution then rejected the above argument and questioned: “Despite knowing that the victim showed signs of exhaustion and was in danger of death, the defendant continued to attack and even stopped him. it’s ashore.”

Meanwhile, a woman who was a witness in the trial testified that there were indeed conflicts and violent acts between the two, but in the middle, the victim stopped, only the defendant unilaterally continue beating.

According to MBS News, the Osaka Court is continuing the trial and has not yet issued a ruling.

As previously reported, Japan tried the case of Trinh Tu Anh, a Vietnamese student born in 1999, assaulted and pushed into the Dotonbori River at 20:20 on August 2, 2021 at the riverside pedestrian area. According to police, a woman called the emergency line, saying that a foreign man was about to drown in the river. Police pulled the victim out of the river about 20 minutes later. Trinh Tu Anh was taken to the hospital and confirmed dead on the evening of the same day. Alberto fled the scene after committing the crime.

An autopsy showed the victim had multiple bruises on his head and neck. According to security cameras near the scene, the police discovered that Alberto and Tu Anh had been drinking and playing music before the murder.

Police arrested Alberto at an accommodation facility in the Nishinari district. In addition to being arrested in connection with Trinh Tu Anh’s death, Alberto is also suspected of illegal immigration.
