Insomnia will increase further as the Earth gets warmer and will vary by age and sex. The prevalence of insomnia in women is about one-quarter higher than in men, doubles in those over 65 years of age, and triples in low- and middle-income countries.

The results are based on data from sleep monitoring bracelets used by 47,000 people in 68 countries; indicates that elevated temperatures have health effects such as increased risk of heart attack, suicide and mental health crisis, increased risk of accidents and injuries; reduced ability to work. Therefore, policymakers need to ensure that cities, towns and buildings are well adapted to global warming, to protect the physical and mental health of their residents.
