Mr. Son, 58, from Ho Chi Minh City, is highly regarded for his professional and managerial capabilities, making great contributions to the health sector, especially efforts to develop high technology in organ transplantation.
Nearly four years ago, he was appointed by the Prime Minister to hold the position of Deputy Health Minister while he was the Director of Cho Ray Hospital. He is also a rare case of the medical profession for three terms as Director of Cho Ray Hospital.

In May 2022, Mr. Son was disciplined by the Central Inspection Commission for the second time, with a warning level, related to the incident at Viet A Company.
The Ministry of Health currently has four deputy ministers: Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien Huong, Mr. Tran Van Thuan, Nguyen Truong Son, and Do Xuan Tuyen.
Yesterday afternoon, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Long, Minister of Health was expelled from the Party by the Central Committee. Previously, many officials of the Ministry of Health and its affiliated units were disciplined for violations related to the Viet A case and the Drug Administration of Vietnam.
