A group searched for the old woman initially for several days but in vain.
Earlier on the afternoon of June 7, a local resident while walking into the forest in the area of My Thanh commune, Ham Thuan Nam district discovered a decomposing body.
The Investigative Police Department of Ham Thuan Nam district police came to the scene for an autopsy and solicited a forensic examination of the corpse.
Based on clothes, age and identification for relatives, the authorities identified the body as Thi Xin, 71 years old of Rai ethnic group, living in Duc Binh commune, Tanh Linh district.
Previously, on May 20, Mr. Xin and a group of about 50 people walked about 20 km into a deep forest area in My Thanh commune, Ham Thuan Nam district to worship ancestors according to custom.
The place of worship is the old tomb and shrine in the jungle, more than 2 km from Cau Treo Forest Management Station. After worshiping, the group went to the stream to bathe according to the custom.
Mrs. Xin also went down to the stream to bathe and then returned to the place to put her belongings nearby. The rest of the group then did not see Mrs. Xin, so they went out to look for her, but failed.

After that, the government of My Thanh Commune People’s Committee and My Thanh Forest Protection Station sent 20 people into the forest to search but did not find Mr. Xin.
On May 24, the People’s Committee of Duc Binh commune (Tanh Linh) where the old woman resided continued to send two search teams including local people, militia and police into the area to expand the search but also failed.
Due to a lot of rain, in the jungle, the road was slippery, so the search encountered many difficulties and failed to achieve results… Reportedly, the place of discovery body Xin tool is about 10 km from the original position.
