Recently, the body of a newborn baby was found inside a locker at a Japanese train station. Soon after, the police opened an investigation into this incident and initially determined this to be a child abandonment case.

According to a report in the Asahi Shimbun newspaper, the incident happened at JR Chitose train station, in Chitose city, Hokkaido prefecture, Japan. Here, there are public lockers for people or tourists to send things for convenient transportation, no need to carry things around.

The staff at the JR Chitose train station began to feel confused and suspicious when they discovered that this public locker is always locked, that is, it is always in a state of use for many days without seeing any signs. Anyone come and get the stuff. Suspecting something unusual, on the morning of June 7, 2022, the staff decided to use the spare key to open the drawer. Unexpectedly, the scene inside made them dumbfounded. In the drawer is a box containing the body of a newborn baby.

Terrified, the train station staff immediately called the police. Through examination and autopsy, the police initially determined that this baby died right after birth, but the cause of death could not be determined. Police believe this was a case of child abandonment and body concealment. The person who abandoned the baby also carefully placed the body in the refrigerator in the locker to slow down the decomposition process, apparently not wanting others to find out this soon.

The baby’s body has been sent to a center for an autopsy to determine the sex as well as the time and cause of death. Police also began investigating the entire incident, checking the usage records of public lockers to find out the identity of the person who left the baby’s body.

According to passengers present at the scene, JR Chitose train station is close to Chitose city airport, so many people often use public lockers. However, no one expected that someone would put the body of a newborn baby in a locker.
