Truth Social, the social network behind former US President Donald Trump, has risen to the top of the App Store following a tweet by Elon Musk.
On April 25, Truth Social released the latest version, allowing users to access the full functionality of the social network. However, the platform only attracted great attention after the tech billionaire mentioned it on Twitter on April 27.
On his personal page with more than 85 million followers, Musk said Truth Social is surpassing both Twitter and TikTok to top the App Store overnight.
Trust Social took the lead in downloads in the US on April 27.
According to Apptopia data, after the above tweet, the number of new downloads continued to skyrocket 10 times, from 6,000 to 55,000. Truth Social’s daily active users count also now reaches 365,000, up 20% from last week.
This growth also helps the company behind to benefit. Shares of Digital World, the company that develops Truth Social with Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), rose 24% on April 27, although it had previously fallen 60% in the last two months.
Trump announced the creation of Truth Social in October 2021 “to fight the tyranny of the tech giants”. However, it was not until mid-February that the new platform launched.
After being available on the App Store, Truth Social immediately rose number one in the free app category in the US, the first market this social network is launched. After that, though, it was likened to “ghost town” because of few regular users, as well as limited features and difficult usage.
