COVID-19 patients in Ukraine have difficulties in treatment

At Kharcov Infectious Diseases Hospital, doctors are transferring patients COVID-19 patient down to the bomb shelter when the air raid sirens sounded. But those in severe condition, needing a continuous supply of oxygen, could not move, they had to lie in treatment rooms on the ground. Even if they could go down to the bunker, it wouldn’t be the best option.

Mr. Pavlo Nartov – Director of Kharcov Infectious Diseases Hospital said: “People in critical condition are still in their treatment room, if we take them to the cellar, there is not enough oxygen then they will die. It was very difficult and stressful. As you can see, fighting was going on from morning to night, fortunately our hospital hasn’t been attacked yet.”

Kharcov is one of the flashpoints of this conflict. For the past three weeks, the doctors here have been in a dilemma.

“Before the conflict happened, we bought medical supplies. Volunteers are also bringing some. Of course it can’t be enough,” added Pavlo Nartov.

Currently, Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine is aimed only at military targets. It is not known when the war will end, but this hospital may face additional difficulties due to a shortage of drugs to treat COVID-19 patients.
