China identifies all plane crash victims

Chinese authorities announced that they have identified all 132 victims on flight MU5735 thanks to DNA technology.

“We have confirmed the identities of all victims by comparing fingerprints and using DNA samples from relatives,” said Liu Kaihui, an official at the Ministry of Public Security’s forensic examination department. Chinaannounced today.

The announcement came hours after Chinese authorities held a memorial ceremony for the 132 victims in a mountainous area in Teng County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, in southern China, where the plane had a serial number. China Eastern Airlines MU5735 crashed on March 21.

Hu Zhenjiang, deputy director general of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), confirmed on March 26 that all 123 passengers and nine crew members on flight MU5735 had died.

FlightRadar24 data shows that the plane plunged almost vertically while cruising at an altitude of nearly 9,000 meters. The pilot seemed to have tried to save the plane in the last seconds, regaining altitude, but the plane still crashed to the ground at a speed of nearly 600 km / h.

Chinese authorities have found both the plane’s black boxes and are in the process of decoding it, which could take weeks to months to analyze. Data from the two black boxes may provide additional clues, helping investigators determine the cause of the crash.
