The case of the beauty queen denouncing the high-status ‘adopted uncle’ of rape: Must protect the victim, stop gender stereotypes!

“If the case is not handled seriously, it will send the message that money can turn women into a game,” said expert Nguyen Van Anh.

“Indignation” are the two words that Mrs Nguyen Van Anh – Director of the Center for Research and Applied Science on Gender – Family – Women and Adolescents (CSAGA) talked about the case of a university beauty who accused “uncle” – head of a faculty at the University of Law, The chairman of the board of a hospital in Hanoi forced her to be a sex slave for a long time.

“I think everyone’s feelings are the same, which is anger at evil that is blatant, abusive, blatant and defiant.

With many years of working on gender equality and domestic violence prevention, we have witnessed many cases like this and many cases have been lost. That’s what we’re extremely worried about, fearing that this case will be the same. This partly explains why more than 90% of women who experience violence keep silent.

Because in fact, when things happen, victims are often attacked and blamed instead of being protected, instead of being helped.

Ms. Van Anh said that, before clarifying, the first thing to do is to protect the girl, protect her loved ones who are in danger of life. In society, the villains can completely do what they once threatened: kill, sell to a brothel as a prostitute…

“That story is entirely possible. So don’t think that it’s real or not. Victims have called for help to the police, have called for help to the shelter, which means they need help.

No wonder they have a normal life and have to leave their home, hide in a shelter, not suddenly, the life of a normal mother who is a doctor of law in a university has a story of “outlining” shirt for people to see” about his daughter to fall into a situation where the whole society commented.

This means they are in danger. Therefore, the first thing to do is to protect them in an understanding way,” said Ms. Van Anh.

The second thing to do at this time, according to Ms. Van Anh, is that the relevant agencies must actively deal with the case and investigate to find out the truth of the story.

It should be remembered that the story of gender-based violence is not like all other stories, because the evidence is only a part, it also partly depends on the prejudices of the investigator and adjudicator,” worried Ms. Van Anh.

Ms. Van Anh added on the issue of prejudice: “Just like on social networks in the past few days, there have been opinions that the girl is the 13th zodiac sign; because of me, she is on both sides; how can high school be beautiful? If you can’t be deceived, you probably want to get ahead; your family probably doesn’t have a connection, but why don’t you know if you’re like that… However, all of these statements are just prejudices using experience and experience. their own personal predictions about the lives of others.

It’s very bad. Because with such prejudices, it leads to the situation of blaming the victim – so the perpetrator can freely escape the crime.

Ms. Van Anh said that this case is very complicated in nature and has a strong impact on society. All the insiders have a social position, an economic position, and a certain understanding. They are all people who understand the law, teach law, people who work in a profession that is considered noble: doctors, teachers.

“The case has been brought to light, but if not handled seriously, it will send the message that: We can use women to make games, as tools as long as we have money and rights. And money will rise above, money and the brutality of violent people can trample above the law.

I think everyone feels hurt when the law is trampled, the human condition is trampled, and human dignity is trampled on if this story is not thoroughly resolved,” said Van Anh. .

The director of CSAGA said that relevant agencies such as the police, women’s union or the school and hospital where Mr. T. works need to have a resolute attitude towards guilt in order to find the truth and deal with it. on the basis of gender sensitivity and understanding of gender violence.

“When there is a conclusion from the investigative agency on the basis of fairness and gender sensitivity, it is extremely necessary to speak out decisively. Because you cannot become pure when you stand before the crimes of people in your agency, but you are silent and indifferent.

Therefore, I once again recommend that the victim be protected from danger. Secondly, the authorities need to urgently find out the truth and handle it strictly and according to the law”, Ms. Van Anh suggested.

As Infonet reported, according to the denunciation of Miss NH sent to the authorities, she knew Mr. T because she was a colleague and student of her mother. After graduating from university, Ms. H. was invited by Mr. T. (according to the application, Mr. T. is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of a general hospital in Hanoi and the Dean of a university in Hanoi) invited to work. During his work at the hospital, Mr. T. even had a wife and children, but still solicited her to have sex and was rejected by her. During a trip, Mr. T. drank alcohol and raped Ms. H..

After that rape, Mr. T. used all sorts of tricks to force Ms. H. into an informal relationship and threatened to release a hot clip if she didn’t approve. “From then until now, from January 2020 to January 2022, I was repeatedly subjected to mental violence and sexual rape by Mr. T,” the denunciation stated.

Also according to the content of the denunciation, every time Ms. H. refused to have sex, Mr. T. threatened and terrorized to achieve the goal. Even Mr. T. asked Ms. H. to have a collective “relationship”.

Many times of unsuccessful resistance, fear of affecting the honor of herself and Mr. T, so Ms. H. did not speak up. Around January 1, 2022, when she was too tired, Ms. H asked to end her illicit relationship but was beaten, threatened, and mentally terrorized by Mr. T.

Regarding the incident, at noon on March 28, the Office of the People’s Committee of Hoang Liet Ward (Hoang Mai, Hanoi) received a document from the Center for Women and Development – Vietnam Women’s Union.

According to the document, the Center for Women and Development – Vietnam Women’s Union has received information from Ms. VNH (Hanoi City) reporting that she is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of a hospital, who is also the head of the department of a school. University in Hanoi beat, forced sex.

The Center for Women and Development – Vietnam Women’s Union has forwarded Ms. NH’s denunciation to the People’s Committee of Hoang Liet ward, asking relevant parties to cooperate in verification. The Hoang Liet ward police have grasped the above information.

On the evening of the same day, the Law University, where Mr. T. worked, also gave initial feedback. Accordingly, the school has also received a denunciation, the scene has assigned the functional units in the school to receive, verify, clarify and resolve according to their competence, ensuring objectivity and strictness.

Hanoi Law University is committed to resolutely handling violations if any, not avoiding, not covering.
